Homo cepranensis is a proposed name for a human species, known from only one skull cap discovered in 1994. The fossil was discovered in Italy by archeologist Italo Biddittu and was nicknamed 'Ceprano Man' after the nearby town. Homo cepranensis lived between 350,000 and 500,000 years ago, based on the fossil dating [Muttoni 2009].
The cranial features on the bone seem to be intermediate between those found on Homo erectus and Homo heidelbergensis. Some argue it was ancestral to Homo neanderthalensis although there is not yet enough material to prove this, or make a complete analysis of the individual.
