Prehistoric art encapsulates the artistic mind-frame of our ancestors. Strange as it may be, this mind-frame weaves its way through time to the present day. And on that journey of time, where humankind ultimately shares the same needs and desires, joys and sorrows, the themes and motifs remain constant. motif: eternal is an opportunity to exhibit this tendency, where the themes and motifs of ancient rock art find themselves embedded in the foundations of contemporary art. This section is dedicated to contemporary artists who are inspired by ancient themes and motifs in their work, consciously or subconsciously, to produce art that will push, probe and celebrate the human experience.
 

CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS
 
Han Meilin
Han Meilin was born in 1936 in Jinan, Shandong. He has had a prolific artistic career of painting and sculpture. He was commissioned to create the 10 meter high Five Dragon Clock Tower for the 26th Olympic Games held in Atlanta in 1996. Other monumental sculptures include ‘Tigers’ for Dalian in Liaoning Province, ‘The Bull’ for Jinan, ‘Cock Crows to Herald the Break of Day’ for Zibo in Shandong Province, and ‘Sacred Bull’ for Shekou. Han Meilin also created the Fuwa doll mascots for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
 
Bernd Haussmann

Bernd Haussmann has been the Artist-in-Residence at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Boston, MA, since 2012. He is a teacher at the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill, Truro, MA and at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Provincetown, MA; and has been mentoring at the New Hampshire Institute of Art, NH, at the Art Institute of Boston, MA and others.
 
Bruce Radke Christian Tuki Gordon Ellis-Brown
Working from his studio in Australia, Bruce Radke's practice is driven by a fascination in allowing the unconscious to manifest expression through sculpture. Qwion of 2010 is an emulation of the elegance & poise imbued in the dancing forms of the Bradshaw Paintings.
I want to tell what the Rapa Nui petroglyphs speak about. I want to showcase Rapa Nui, further than it's moai, to show its people, natural and affectionate people, who love simple things, music & are respectful of nature & its laws. I am TUKI, a Rapa Nui artist.
Drawing on his graphic roots, his time spent in California and New Mexico, and a comprehensive resource library built up over the past 15 years, Gordon Ellis-Brown is now emerging as an artist breaking new frontiers using Native American rock art symbolism.
